At the Parish Council meeting, held on 9th September 2009, ten Parish Councillors were in attendance, together with the District Councillor and the County Councillor.
Speed Indicator Device (SID)
PC Paul Quinnell addressed the meeting on the operation and benefits of SID. The aims and objectives of the use of SID are to:
Reduce death and injury on the roads
Improve the quality of life for local communities
Reduce the speed of vehicles to the speed limit
Increase public awareness of inappropriate speed
The scheme is authorised and managed by the police, but the use of the SID device will be undertaken by volunteers who will be trained in its use by the police. They will then work in pairs, for a short length of time, on an occasional basis. We are, therefore, seeking volunteers, from amongst Easebourne parishioners, to help deter speeding motorists in our village. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please contact the Clerk on 01730 813374 or easebournepc@tiscali.co.uk for further information.
Police Security Advice
Easebourne has a fairly low crime rate but the police have advised residents to take certain precautions with their property. Lock up garden equipment, do not leave windows open when the property is unoccupied and also do not leave laptop computers in your car. There have also been several thefts of York stone paving in the area recently. If you see any suspicious vehicle, take the registration number, make, colour etc. and report it to the police immediately.
Proposed Car Parking Charges in Midhurst
The proposed parking charges were discussed at length at the Parish Council meeting. In order to compete with the attractions offered by much larger town centres, such as Chichester, we believe that it is essential for Midhurst to retain its free car parking.
This would then continue to attract residents from the outlying villages, including Easebourne, into Midhurst to shop and to use the other facilities in the town.
The next Parish Council meeting will be on Wednesday 11th November 2009, at 7.30pm in the Refectory, Easebourne. All are welcome.
