EASEBOURNE PARISH COUNCIL

NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2007

All eleven Councillors were in attendance at the Parish Council Meeting held on 14th November 2007, together with three members of the public.

OPERATION CRACKDOWN

The first month of this operation has proved to be very popular with over 700 reports made by the public, to the police, who have sent letters to those reported.  They have also targeted and taken action against some obvious repeat ‘offenders.’ This is providing an ideal opportunity for anti-social driving to be tackled head-on and could provide some clear advantages to reducing speed and casualties on our roads.  Remember the slogan  “Don’t Tolerate it, Report it.”  A reminder that reports can be made on 01243 642222 or www.operationcrackdown.org

SCHOOLS IN THE ROTHER VALLEY – HAVE YOUR SAY

A consultation is beginning into the future for schools in the Midhurst and Petworth area.  The review is prompted by a number of factors: falling numbers, schools that are not sustainable, the need to benefit from future capital investment and the view that pupils make better progress if they change schools less often.  Individual schools are not being considered at this stage but the County Council is keen to hear the views of as many people as possible.  The matter will be discussed at the next Chichester (North) County Local Committee meeting on Tuesday 11th December 2007 at 7pm at Midhurst Grammar School (Main Hall). When the best options have been identified, the County Council will publish ‘statutory notices’ which will give everyone another chance to have their say.  Final decisions are likely to be taken in the autumn of 2008 and any changes to come into being in September 2010.

CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUND

Following the instances of broken glass and dog fouling in the playground, signs have now been erected on the entrance gates, warning that glass and dogs are not allowed.  The old and damaged chestnut paling fence along one side of the playground has now been replaced.  The other side will probably be replaced in 2008.  We hope, next year, to be able to install an item of play equipment more suitable for younger children.

SPEED SURVEY NORTH AND SOUTH OF BUDGENOR LODGE

Some members of the public have expressed concern at the speed of traffic on the A286 in the vicinity of Budgenor Lodge.  The situation has been exacerbated by the need for vehicles to enter and leave the new housing development.  Consequently West Sussex  County Council are to undertake a speed survey in the area.

The next Parish Council meeting will take place on Wednesday 9th January 2008 at 7.30pm in the Refectory.  All are welcome.
