EASEBOURNE PARISH COUNCIL

NEWSLETTER JULY/AUGUST 2008

At the Parish Council meeting, held on 9th July 2008, nine Councillors were in attendance, together with the County Councillor, the Clerk and three members of the public.

Grants

The first grants of this financial year were awarded at the meeting.  It was agreed to give £100.00 to the Samaritans and £300.00 to the 1st Easebourne Scout Group, who need to replace two picnic benches, at the Scout hut, which have rotted and are now unsafe to use.

Budgenor Lodge Community Facilities Contribution

The Parish Council is using this financial contribution from the developer of Budgenor Lodge to benefit all sectors of the community.  Two projects are now finished and others are in the pipeline.  Recently, six new high quality teak benches were installed, to replace the very old and damaged ones there previously.  Five of these are in the children’s playground and one is in the Glaziers Lane burial ground.  In addition, the playground now has two new items of play equipment for the youngest age group.  These are a “Simple Simon” play unit with a slide, on suitable safety surfacing, together with a spring mobile called “Freddie Frog”.  Planning permission has now been granted for the installation of a stair lift in the Refectory.  This will allow easy access to the first floor meeting room, for the disabled and less agile members of the community.  Also forthcoming will be a replacement for the scruffy bus shelter in Easebourne Lane, outside Conifers School.  This will be funded by a 40% grant from the County Council, some funds from the Budgenor Lodge Communities Facilities Contribution, with a small balance from the Parish Council.

Speeding Traffic Through the Village

Local police constable Paul Quinnell told the Parish Council meeting that he had been checking the speed of traffic on the A286, in both the 30mph and 40mph sections.  In one hour he stopped and cautioned nine motorists, many local, who were driving in excess of the speed limit.  He has also asked that the public report any suspicious vehicles seen in the area.  This should be done by telephoning the non-emergency police number 0845 60 70 999.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Wednesday 10th September 2008 at 7.30pm in the Refectory, Easebourne.  All are welcome
