EASEBOURNE PARISH COUNCIL

DECEMBER 2006 NEWSLETTER

The Parish Council meeting held on 8th November 2006 was attended by 10 Parish Councillors, the District Councillor and the Clerk. Apologies for absence were received from one Parish Councillor and the County Councillor.

Grants:  Every year the Parish Council budget includes an amount set aside for grants to local organisations. In this financial year 2006/2007 we have awarded grants to the Midhurst Community Bus Association, 1st Easebourne Scout Group, Royal British Legion and the Cowdray Heritage Trust.  If your organisation benefits the local community and would like a grant for a specific project please contact the Clerk (813374) for further information.  Any request for a grant would need to be accompanied by a copy of your last audited accounts.

Cowdray Heritage Trust: The "Ruins" project is now well advanced and on Tuesday 5th December 2006 there will be an a "Cowdray Friends and Volunteers" information event. This will be held at the "Ruins" commencing at 10.30am.  Everyone is welcome Ð would you please gain access via the Causeway.  There will also be posters around the village advertising this event.

Save Our Rural Post Offices: Recent national research has shown that 91% of people feel that Post Offices play an important role in their communities and that seven out of 10 villages in England no longer have a shop. So when the government announced its decision not to renew the Post Office Card Account beyond 2010 and failed to make a decision on the subsidy given to rural Post Offices it became clear that these threats to the future of rural Post Offices have the potential to devastate the communities they serve.  The Countryside Alliance is leading a campaign entitled "Love the Post Office, love the countryside" and the Parish Council is supporting this campaign. We have duly written to Mr Jim Fitzpatrick MP, who is the government minister responsible for Post Offices, expressing our concern about the future of such a vital amenity.

Parish Council Elections - 3rd  May 2007:  Just a reminder that 2007 is election year for your Parish Council and also the District Council.  If you, or anyone you know, is interested in becoming involved in Easebourne affairs please speak to any Councillor or the Clerk (813374) who will be happy to discuss what is involved in being a Parish Councillor.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Wednesday 10th January 2007 at 7.30pm in the Refectory.  All parishioners are welcome to attend.
